Expansion Campaign for San Antonio Botanical Garden

As the agency of record for the San Antonio Botanical Garden, Komet was charged with creating a comprehensive marketing and public relations campaign to highlight the Garden’s major capital improvement project – the Grow campaign.

Komet worked with the executive committee to understand their goals and timeline, and then provided a plan of action and strategic roadmap for deliverables.

Komet designed and project managed on site custom signage for the garden, highlighting the various aspects of the expansion campaign. To create a feeling of an elegant outdoor museum, Komet oversaw the construction of custom bases for the weather-proof stretched canvas signs.

To set the stage for the ground breaking, Komet developed a child-centric event with children handling the “job” of breaking ground with child size shovels, branded child size Garden hard hats, with large boards of the architectural renderings displayed for guests as they arrived. We assembled the elements for the media kits, which were provided to all outlets when they arrived. An electronic press kit with images was also made available to allow ease of access for news media.

Our engagement included extensive public relations to build awareness in the months leading up to the ground breaking. Komet worked one on one with media outlets to ensure different aspects of the project were highlighted to suit the audience of each outlet. Our efforts generated story coverage with every local English and Spanish language news organization (tv, radio, print, online) in San Antonio; on the day of the grand opening, we again garnered extensive coverage, utilizing Spanish spokespeople during the groundbreaking to provide interviews to Spanish-language media outlets.
